A very intelligent and funny man. I was always astounded at the scope and accuracy of his knowledge. Settle down with a drink, mention any subject you could think of, then sit back and enjoy being educated with plenty of amusing anecdotes thrown in related to that subject, of his own or other people he knew. I was never bored or unhappy in his company. His personal chosen subject of expertise, of course, being automotive, whether two or four wheels and a very skilful mechanic, racing driver and instructor. Great memories for me and my past colleagues and associates from the time my company sponsored a racing car, which Andy built and raced for us. A life well lived! Many happy memories with him and his lovely and equally talented family. Love to Jayne, Hayley, Ruth and Kenna (my extra Saturday child 😆 while Andy ran the Llandow race circuit, Jayne worked in a garage and Kerry worked in an estate agents). Happy days.

Dear Andy
I’m deeply saddened by the fact that we will not meet again, at least not in this life, but I have to tell you that my spirit was lifted by the poem sent by Kathy, “My Last Ride”, that conjures up a lovely comforting image of you riding off into the sunset with that big smile on your face, saying “Don’t worry. I’m ok”!
Even so, I will miss our wide ranging conversations which in the past included subjects such as Pulmonary Fibrosis, Italian motorbikes, road trips around Brecon and Europe, and the relative merits of the Hurricane vs the Spitfire in WW2. Not forgetting your favourite subject “potholes”!
I still see that look of disdain on your face at just the mention of potholes!
On behalf of the medical students that attended our teaching sessions, I want to thank you. They benefitted immensely from meeting with you. Not only were they impressed by how long you had lived with pulmonary fibrosis but how you lived with it. You were inspirational. They won’t forget you.
As for me, I was privileged to be your physician, but more than that, like so many others, I was privileged to have you as my friend. I will miss you.
So until we meet again Andy, watch out for those heavenly potholes!
